Oct 23, Colombo: Sri Lanka Navy handed over the body of the fisherman of the sunken Indian fishing vessel to the Indian authorities at the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) this morning (23rd October 2021).

A search and rescue (SAR) operation mounted by Sri Lanka Navy led to the recovery of the body of the fisherman who went missing when the poaching Indian vessel capsized and sank after colliding with a Sri Lanka Navy vessel in Sri Lankan waters northwest of the Kovilan Lighthouse in the evening of 18th October.

A Sri Lanka Navy Fast Attack Craft transferred the body and formally handed over it to the Indian Coast Guard at the IMBL this morning.

Meanwhile, onward legal proceedings regarding the two fishermen rescued by the Navy from the capsized vessel are currently underway at the Kayts Magistrate Court.
