* Sri Lanka Opposition Leader seeks China’s assistance to manage debt crisis

Oct 22, Colombo: A special meeting between Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong and the Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa took place today (22) at Office of the Leader of the Opposition in Colombo, Opposition Leader’s Office said.

The Leader of the Opposition emphasized the importance of mutual cooperation between the two countries and the importance of friendly bilateral relations that protect sovereignty of Sri Lanka.

“Today I had an excellent conversation with HE Qi Zhenhong, the Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka. I emphasized the importance of continuing friendly bilateral relations between the two countries while protecting Sri Lanka's sovereignty,” Premadasa said on Twitter.

The Leader of the Opposition also requested required assistance to manage debt crisis Sri Lanka has faced at present for progress and prosperity of the country.

The Chinese Ambassador recalled the long-standing relationship between the two countries and also stressed its importance.

The Chinese Embassy on Twitter said Ambassador Qi Zhenhong and Sajith Premadasa, Leader of the Opposition & Samagi Jana Balawegaya discussed broadly on party-to-party and people-to-people friendly exchanges, and pragmatic cooperation in various fields between China and Sri Lanka
