Oct 20, Colombo: The United National Party (UNP) leader and former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe Wednesday said that only the United National Party can see the tomorrow’s world and create the new world in Sri Lanka.

Mr. Wickremesinghe said that the generation born of DS Senanayake as the leader of tomorrow is in the United National Party and the party will work from within an unchanging policy framework to create a prosperous Sri Lankan nation by the time the country celebrates its 100th Independence Day.

Mr. Wickremesinghe said that new youths would be appointed to the party leadership for this purpose.

The launch of the UNP’s membership drive and the launch of the party’s activities through online technology was held at the UNP headquarters at Sirikotha, Pita Kotte at 4 pm today while adhering to COVID-19 health guidelines, Lankadeepa reported.

The membership drive was held under the themes "Tomorrow is not so dark" "We see tomorrow - we build tomorrow" and "Be a member of tomorrow's generation". The launch of the UNP Digital Membership Card and the launch of the Digital Drive App software also took place. The United National Party enters to this program as the first party in Sri Lanka to adopt online technology. It is noteworthy that the founder of the party and the first Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, DS Senanayake's birthday falls today.

Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene, Chairman Vajira Abeywardena, General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara, Deputy Leader Akila Viraj Kariyawasam and other party seniors were present on the occasion.
