* Distribution of organic fertilizer to paddy farmers from tomorrow

Oct 12, Colombo: The Ministry of Agriculture states that arrangements have been made to distribute organic fertilizer to paddy farmers during the Maha season from tomorrow (13).

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage yesterday (11).

State Minister of Shasheendra Rajapaksa, Deputy Commissioners of Agrarian Services, District Directors of Agriculture and District Fertilizer Officers as well as senior officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and the State Ministry participated in the meeting.

It was decided at this meeting to start the distribution of fertilizer from the Ampara district and to distribute to other districts in parallel.

It was also agreed to give priority to the distribution of organic fertilizer to the paddy growing districts of Ampara, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Moneragala, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Kurunegala, Hambantota and Puttalam.

It was further decided at this meeting to transport organic solid fertilizer to all Agrarian Service Centers in the respective areas so that the farmers other than the farmers who have already received government assistance for the production of the required fertilizer can obtain the required organic solid fertilizer from the Agrarian Centers in the respective areas.

In addition, it was decided at the meeting that bio-liquid fertilizers and organic nitrogen should be stored at all Agrarian Service Centers available to farmers.
