* Four employees arrested over Sathosa garlic scam

Oct 11, Colombo: The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has arrested four Lanka Sathosa (CWE) employees this afternoon (11) in connection with the controversial sale of two containers of imported garlic belonging to the CWE to a third party businessman.

According to Sathosa sources, the four employees include three suspended officers and an official who is said to have recently joined the CWE service.

It is learned that the officer who was arrested today has been taken into police custody on the charge of signing documents related to this transaction.

The four suspects are due to be produced before the Welisara Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, police said.

One of the officers who was suspended in connection with the incident has been arrested earlier and has been produced in court and released on bail.
