* Milk powder, Wheat flour, Cement prices increased

Oct 11, Colombo: The Milk Powder Importers’ Association says imported milk powder will be released to the market at new prices from today.

Accordingly, a 1 kg packet of milk powder will be released to the market at Rs. 1,195 and a 400 gram packet at Rs. 480 from today, according to the Milk Powder Importers’ Association.

The Cement companies have also decided to increase the price of a 50kg cement bag by Rs 93 and the new price has gone up to Rs. 1098.

Meanwhile, Prima, a major importer of wheat flour, and Serendib Company have decided to increase the price of wheat flour by 10 rupees, a Prima official said. With this increase the price of a kilo of wheat flour which was 87 rupees has gone up to 97 rupees.

The Bakery Owners’ Association meanwhile said a discussion will be held this afternoon regarding the increase in bakery products due to the increase in the price of wheat flour. Most likely the price of a pound of bread will increase by 5 rupees, the Association said.
