* Sri Lanka raises domestic LP gas prices sharply

Oct 11, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Consumer Affairs Authority has allowed the country’s LP gas suppliers, Litro Gas and LAUGFS to raise the price of LP gas, effective from Monday.

State-owned Litro gas has increased its product prices with effect from midnight on Sunday (10).

Accordingly, the price of a 12.5 kg domestic gas cylinder has been increased by Rs. 1,257 and will now be sold at Rs. 2,750.

The price of a 5 kg cylinder was increased by Rs. 503 and will be sold at Rs. 1,101 while a 2.5 kg cylinder was increased by Rs. 231 and will be sold at Rs. 520.

Meanwhile, Laugfs Gas also announced its new pricing today.

Laugfs Gas announced that the price of a 12.5 kg domestic gas cylinder has been increased by Rs. 984 and its new price will be Rs. 2,840.

Also, price of a 5 kg Laugfs gas cylinder will increase by Rs. 393 and the new price will be Rs. 1,136.

The government last week decided to remove controlled prices for four essential items including domestic LP gas and to assign the Consumer Affairs Authority to increase the prices of milk powder, gas, wheat flour and cement to cover their costs.
