* Bread prices up by Rs. 10 from midnight today

Nov 28, Colombo: The All Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association states that the price of loaf of bread weighing 450 grams will be increased by Rs. 10.00 from midnight Sunday. Accordingly, the new price of a 450 gram loaf of bread is 80 rupees.

Addressing a media briefing held in Colombo this morning, the chairman of the All Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association NK Jayawardena said the price of a loaf of bread should be at least around 100 rupees but the Association decided to increase by only 10 rupees.

Meanwhile, the wholesalers say that flour producers have increased the price of wheat flour by Rs. 18.50 per kilo. They say that they have not received stocks of flour in the past few days and when they received the stocks prices have been raised.

Asela Sampath, President of the Restaurant Owners’ Association stated at a media briefing today that the prices of snacks including kottu and egg roti will be increased from tomorrow due to the increase in the price of wheat flour.
