* Central Bank dismisses rumors that migrant workers’ remittances forcibly converted into Sri Lankan Rupees

Nov 27, Colombo: The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has stated that rumors that remittances sent to Sri Lanka by Sri Lankan workers abroad will be forcibly converted into Sri Lankan Rupees are completely false.

The Central Bank said that there is no impediment for workers’ remittances sent to Sri Lanka to be kept in their bank accounts in foreign currency at their discretion or to be converted into Sri Lankan Rupees.

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka further states that the various privileges currently offered to Sri Lankan employees abroad can continue to be enjoyed in the same manner without any change
