Nov 27, Colombo: General Secretary of the United National Party Palitha Range Bandara has called on the government to take immediate action against ‘gas bombs’ without allowing more consumers to be killed.

Speaking to the media yesterday (26) former MP said the government has failed to supply the people with the required natural gas. He also said that the gas cylinders given later become ‘bombs’ and explode.

He said that gas cylinders had exploded in Colombo, Weligama, Kandy, Kottawa and Hokandara and requested the government to probe the incidents and take appropriate action.

“The lives and property of gas consumers are at stake. It has been revealed that changes in the volume of a gas cylinder can cause chemical changes and explosions. We urge the government to deploy experts to conduct transparent investigations, disclose their reports to the country and take action against companies that sell gas bombs," he said.

Leader of the House Dinesh Gunawardena said in Parliament yesterday that the government was paying special attention to the incidents of gas cylinder explosions.

A 19-year-old married woman who was receiving treatment at the Colombo General Hospital for 12 days after a gas cylinder exploded in a house in Welikanda, Sandunpitiya, Polonnaruwa has died on Thursday (25).
