Wed, Nov 24, 2021, 01:00 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Nov 24, Colombo: Four more airlines are set to launch new direct flights to Sri Lanka in December, Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said.

Russia’s Azur Airlines, Kazakhstan’s Air Astana Airlines, Poland’s Lot Polish Airlines and Italy’s Neos Airlines will launch direct flights to Sri Lanka, he added.

Russia’s Azur Airlines and Kazakhstan’s Air Astana will operate direct flights to Sri Lanka twice a week from December 3, while Lot Polish Airlines will commence service on December 8 and Italy’s Neos Airlines on December 15, the Minister said.

In the last few days, four new airlines, including Russia’s Aeroflot and Air France, have launched direct flights to Sri Lanka, he said adding that the launch of direct flight services by new airlines to Sri Lanka would help rebuild Sri Lanka's tourism industry.

Prior to the Covid outbreak, 37 airlines operated services to Sri Lanka and 17 airlines have resumed passenger flights. Eight airlines have resumed cargo operations.

The Minister further said that discussions are underway with all the companies that have flown to Sri Lanka in the past to resume flights to Sri Lanka.
