* Academic activities of grades 6-9 to commence today

Nov 22, Colombo: Academic activities for grades 6, 7, 8 and 9 in schools island wide will commence today (22).

The government has decided to reopen schools that were closed due to the Covid epidemic in several phases. Under the first phase, primary grades were started in schools with less than 200 students on October 21.

Under the second phase, primary grades in all schools started on 25th October and in the third phase, Ordinary Level and Advanced Level grades in all schools were started on 8th November. Grades 6-7-8-9 in all schools under Phase IV will begin today.

Accordingly, the educational activities in all government and government approved private schools will be started from Monday.

Additional Secretary of School Affairs at the Ministry of Education, L.M.D. Dharmasena said academic activities will be carried out while adhering to health guidelines.

. He said measures have been taken to ensure children do not contract COVID-19 when traveling to and from the school premises, and stressed the importance of adhering to health guidelines at the school premises as well.

. Meanwhile, the health authorities have urged parents not to send their children to school if they exhibit symptoms of COVID-19.
