Dec 08, Colombo: The Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage informed the Court of Appeal today that the Chinese ship carrying organic fertilizer which is said to contain harmful bacteria has informed the Sri Lankan government that the ship is leaving the Sri Lankan territorial waters.
Nirmalan Wigneswaran, Senior State Counsel appearing for the Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage made this announcement when the writ petition filed by the Center for Environmental Justice seeking an injunction restraining the importation of organic fertilizer to Sri Lanka was called for consideration today.
The petitions were taken up before a bench of Justices Sobhitha Rajakaruna and Dhammika Ganepola.
The Senior State Counsel, appearing for the Minister of Agriculture and other officials who were named as respondents in the petition, informed the court that the company had informed the Government of Sri Lanka that the Chinese ship carrying the organic fertilizer containing the harmful bacteria was leaving the Sri Lankan waters.
The petitioners also informed the court that they were satisfied with the pledge given by the Minister of Agriculture.
Thereafter the consideration of this petition was adjourned till May 09.
