* Prime Minister instructs to immediately resolve problems faced by Small and Medium Enterprises

Dec 06, Colombo: Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa Monday instructed the relevant officials to identify the problems faced by small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in carrying on their business activities and provide them with immediate solutions.

The Prime Minister instructed the officials during a discussion held today with business representatives at Committee Room No. 07 in the Parliament Complex.

The businessmen briefed the Prime Minister on obtaining further loan waivers and recovery of auctioned properties on behalf of businessmen who had faced various difficulties due to the epidemic.

The Prime Minister drew attention to the persistent price fluctuations in commodities and their impact on wholesale and retail trade and the protection of consumers from unbridled price hikes by traders.

Entrepreneurs also spoke on issues affecting the tourism sector, the bakery industry, the flower nurseries, the flower pot industry, the import of auto parts, the garment and gem business, the metal fabrication, Manning Market, and the construction industry.

The Prime Minister immediately drew the attention of the officials to provide relief to the relevant issues.

State Ministers Shehan Semasinghe, Roshan Ranasinghe, Lohan Ratwatte, Indika Anuruddha, Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister Chaminda Kularatne, Director General of Customs Vijitha Ravipriya, Controller General of Imports and Exports Damayanthi S Karunaratne, Additional Director, Additional Director General of the Development Finance Department Manjula Hettiarachchi, Director General of the Fiscal Policy Department Dr. MKC Senanayake, Director General of the Trade and Investment Policy Department K. A. Wimalenthiraja, Banking officials and senior government officials participated in the discussion.
