* Rs. 2000 allowance for low income families affected by the lockdown from tomorrow

Aug 22, Colombo: The government has decided to pay an allowance of Rs. 2000 to low income families affected by the temporary closure of the country to control the spread of Covid-19, Presidential Task Force for Economic Revival and Poverty Alleviation said.

Only low income families who do not receive any allowance from the government should be selected to receive this allowance.

Accordingly, Government Employees, Retirees, Samurdhi Beneficiaries, Elderly, Full-time, Disabled Government Monthly Beneficiaries are not eligible to receive the allowance.

Additional provisions required to pay these benefits have been provided by the Treasury to the District Secretaries.

Accordingly, the officials at the Grama Niladhari Division level with the corporation of Regional Coordinating Committees and the Rural Committee should identify the beneficiaries under an appropriate methodology in accordance with the health guidelines and take steps to pay this allowance.

It is essential to obtain a certificate that the allowance has been received by the relevant beneficiary, the Task Force emphasized.
