* Soil tests to commence next week before distributing organic fertilizer for Maha season

Aug 09, Colombo: The Department of Agriculture says the soil testing required before distributing the organic fertilizer to the farming community for the Maha season will commence from next week.

Director General Department of Agriculture, Dr. Ajantha de Silva said the program will be commenced from the Ampara District.

The Director General of Agriculture further said that training of agricultural research officers has been initiated to educate the farming community on the use of organic fertilizer.

Dr. Ajantha de Silva said it has been decided to conduct a soil test on the cultivated lands before releasing the fertilizer for the Maha season and that steps will be taken to issue a card to the farmers who own the cultivated lands to receive the organic fertilizer.
