May 31, Colombo: The Working Committee of the United National Party (UNP) has unanimously approved a proposal during its meeting today to nominate party leader and former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Party’s National List Representative in parliament.
The proposal was submitted when the UNP Working Committee convened today. Party Chairman Vajira Abeywardena moved the motion while former Minister Ananda Kularatne passed the motion.
The decision will be finalized at the next Working Committee meeting, a Working Committee member said.
The UNP Leader is expected to take oath as a MP next month.
The UNP secured one National List seat at the last Parliamentary Election but no one has been appointed yet to the seat due to various changes within the party.
However, it has been reported that all members of the Working Committee were of the view that Ranil Wickremesinghe should represent the party in the Parliament.
