* Provision of Rs. 5000 allowance to 6 million low-income and Samurdhi families to begin from June 02

May 29, Colombo: The government has decided to provide an allowance of Rs. 5,000 to those who have lost their income due to the current Covid-19 epidemic condition and travel restrictions from June 2.

The allowance will be given to four groups - Samurdhi beneficiary families, Low-income earning families, families whose daily income was lost due to pandemic and beneficiaries of government allowances

For families who are beneficiaries of government allowances, if their allowance is below Rs. 5,000, the benefit will be increased to Rs. 5000.

This allowance will be given to those who have lost their sources of income due to the restrictions imposed on travel, State Minister Shehan Semasinghe said yesterday at a press briefing yesterday (28).

He said the government has allocated Rs. 30 billion for this year’s allowance of Rs.

Samurdhi at a media briefing held at the Government Information Department yesterday (28) stated that if there is a person receiving a certain allowance from the government, if their income is less than Rs. , Shehan Semasinghe, Minister of State for Home Economy, Microfinance, Self-Employment, Business Development and Underutilized State Resources Development.

The government has allocated Rs. 30 billion for the allowance of Rs. 5000 this time.

This time the allowance of Rs. 5,000 will have to be given to 6 -6.5 million family units and this allowance will be given to Samurdhi beneficiaries first, said Mr. Semasinghe.
