May 20, Colombo: Secretary General of Parliament Dhammika Dasanayake said the Parliament Council has approved the President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa's proposal to appoint Solicitor General Sanjaya Rajaratnam as the next Attorney General of Sri Lanka.
This decision was taken at the Parliamentary Council meeting held today (20) under the patronage of the Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.
The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa, Minister of Fisheries Douglas Devananda and Opposition MP Kabir Hashim.
Meanwhile, the recommendation to re-appoint Sanjeewa Jayawardena, PC, as a member of the Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka was approved by Parliament Council, said General Secretary Dhammika Dasanayake.
In addition, the name of Jayantha Shantha Kumara Wickramaratne has been proposed by the Parliament Council to fill the vacancy for member in the Office on Missing Persons.
Also Parliament Council has proposed to appoint Retired Major General W.P.P. Fernando to fill the vacancy at the Office of Reparations.
