May 13, Colombo: State Minister of Primary Health Care, Epidemics, and COVID Disease Control, Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle said they have decided to vaccinate people over the age of 60 who don’t have any complications with China’s Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine.

The Minister said the decision was taken at the COVID-19 Suppression Task Force meeting held today (13).

Minister Fernandopulle said a stock of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine is expected to be received in the next two weeks.

"Everyone loves their life. So somehow they try to get the right vaccine. The vaccine is limited. Currently, the Sinopharm vaccine is only given to people in ages from 30 to 60. Today it was decided to give Sinopharm vaccine to adults over 60 without any complications. The second dose should be given in 4 weeks,” the Minister further said.

Meanwhile, the number of people who received the first dose under the immunization program against Covid 19 has exceeded one million. The number of first and second dose injections given yesterday alone was 92,927.
