* All schools in the island to be opened for all grades on March 29
Wed, Mar 24, 2021, 07:56 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 24, Colombo: The Minister of Education Prof. GL Peiris stated that all schools in the country will be open for academic activities for all grades on the 29th of this month, and all pre-schools will also be opened at the same time.

Speaking at the media briefing on cabinet decisions held at the Government Information Department Wednesday, the Minister said at present classes are conducted only for Grade 5, Grade 11 and Grade 13 in schools in the three districts of Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara in the Western Province but it is possible to open schools for other grades now.

“But now we believe that there is a situation where it is possible to start classes in other grades. We have now received the recommendation of the Director General of Health in this regard,

“Schools have already been opened for the study of all classes in all other parts of the country. Parents and children have a great need to start schools as soon as possible. The reason for this is that children are under a lot of stress due to being confined to their homes and also because of missing the academic work. It is imperative to end this situation and restore school activities. Therefore, schools across the country will be reopened on March 29,” he said.

Minister of Information and Mass Media Dr. Keheliya Rambukwella and State Minister Vijitha Berugoda were also present on the occasion.
