* Sri Lanka begins vaccination of citizens over 60

Mar 12, Colombo: Sri Lanka today commenced the distribution of 264,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine procured through the UNICEF under the COVAX facility to the most vulnerable persons above 60 years of age group in the most high-risk areas impacted by COVID-19.

Vaccination programs were conducted at the Victoria Elderly Home in Rajagiriya and the Kotelawalapura Elderly Home in Malabe. The event was presided over by Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi.

Vaccination is planned for adults in Colombo and Gampaha districts. Simultaneously, vaccinations will be given to the wardens and staff of elderly homes in the Colombo and Gampaha districts.

State Minister Prof. Channa Jayasumana, Secretary to the Ministry of Health Major General Specialist Dr. Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena and representatives of UNICEF were also present.
