* Ministry of Public Security plans a week-long ‘crime prevention wave’

Mar 06, Colombo: The Ministry of Public security plans to implement a one-week long islandwide ‘crime prevention wave’ operation combining Police Special Task Force, Army and Police to crack down on organized crime, drug trafficking and extortion.

This was stated by the Minister in charge of the subject Rear Admiral (Retd.) Dr. Sarath Weerasekara at a media briefing held at the Ministry of Public Security yesterday (5).

The Minister said that this special operation is to be carried out with the full support of the intelligence services and the public and it is possible for people to provide information through the Police Emergency Nos. 118 and 119.

He said the purpose of this operation is to facilitate the general public to lead a normal life without any fear or suspicion.
