* Drunk driver runs over four people in Wellawatta, one killed

Mar 06, Colombo: A motorcyclist was killed and three others were injured in two accidents involving a drunk driver near Rajasinghe Mawatha, Wellawatte early Saturday morning (06), the police said.

A car coming from the direction of Kollupitiya has collided with a motorcyclist at around 6.10 this morning while passing the Wellawatte railway station and run over three others who were exercising near the road.

The car had continued without stopping and another vehicle has chased the fleeing vehicle and helped the police to catch it.

The cyclist had died on the spot while the other three were hospitalized. One of the men is in critical condition, the police said.

According to the police, the two occupants of the car were both drunk. The accident had taken place when they were returning from a club in Colombo after consuming alcohol, police said.
