* Orders to arrest police officers who assaulted law student

Mar 03, Colombo: Attorney General Dappula de Livera has instructed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) CD Wickramaratne to arrest the four police officers of the Peliyagoda Police Station involved in the assault on final year law student Migara Gunaratne.

The Attorney General has also instructed the IGP to produce the arrested suspects in court and charge them under the Penal Code and the Torture Act.

Four police officers attached to the Peliyagoda Police Station have been suspended in connection with the incident. Investigations are currently underway into a complaint lodged by law student Migara Gunaratne on assault on him by the officers at the Peliyagoda Police Station and another complaint by the police regarding Migara Gunaratne allegedly interfering with the duties of police officers.
