* Military intelligence units to catch travel restrictions violators
Sat, Jun 12, 2021, 09:50 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

June 12, Colombo: General Shavendra Silva, Sri Lanka Army Commander and the Head of the National Operations Center for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) said special military intelligence teams have been deployed across the country to search for information on people traveling unnecessarily in violation of quarantine laws.

The Army Commander further said it is the responsibility of these teams to surveil the places where quarantine laws are being violated and inform the relevant authorities including the police about the violators.

He said that although the behavior of many is satisfactory during the period when travel restrictions have been declared, behavior of some is regrettable.

The Army Commander requested the people not to leave their homes for any reason other than a matter of urgency and said that the decision to reopen the country is made by the people themselves.

“If the people do the right thing, we will be able to open the country on the scheduled date,” General Shavendra Silva added.
