June 11, Colombo: Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa today said the heads of institutions must ensure to provide an efficient and effective service to the people.

The Prime Minister addressing a discussion at Temple Trees on the current status of the Employees' Trust Fund (ETF), said it is very important that the heads of institutions cooperate with the trade union representatives in this regard.

The Prime Minister said officials must take steps to intervene and expeditiously provide guidance depending on the needs of the clients visiting the service providers and to provide the relevant service efficiently.

The Prime Minister said that the officials should receive the guidance of the heads of institutions for this purpose and reminded that public service is a responsibility as well as a duty.

The Prime Minister said that the heads of institutions and the trade union representatives should work together to resolve the problems in their institutions.
