July 31, Colombo: The inaugural program to establish Coffee Export Processing Villages was held under the patronage of Trade Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena at the Nuwara Eliya District Secretariat Auditorium on Saturday (30).
Sri Lanka Export Development Board is implementing the program. The Minister symbolically distributed 500,000 Luck Parakum coffee saplings among selected families.
The program will initially target Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Matale, Kegalle and Badulla districts to produce high quality coffee targeting the export market.
The program is implemented with a target to earn 10 billion dollars by 2025. It is also expected to launch 300 villages to produce coffee for export.
