July 31, Colombo: The Attorney General’s Department informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika C. Ragala yesterday (30) that further action would be taken under the Prevention of Terrorism Act against seven suspects who were remanded in connection with the alleged drug trafficking by a group of officers of the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB).
The Attorney General's Department has informed the court that meanwhile, action will be taken to prosecute other suspects in the case - Manjula, Ranil Shyaman Appuhamy, Janaka Ruwan Alwis, Harshana Kavinda Sooriyarachchi and Nirosha Madusanka de Silva under the Money Laundering and Public Property Act.
The Attorney General's Department stated that further action would be taken against seven other suspects under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
After considering the facts, the Magistrate remanded the suspects until the 4th of August.
The Magistrate also directed the Superintendent of Prisons to call for a medical report to examine whether the bones of the 27th suspect’s face and body were damaged and submit the report to the court.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched the investigations into the alleged involvement of a team of officers attached to the Police Narcotics Bureau colluding with large scale drug traffickers and organized crime gangs in trafficking drugs, smuggling weapons, aiding, abetting, planning and conspiracy to commit murders, disturbing public order and disturbing public peace and violence.
