July 30, Colombo: A Sri Lankan court today (30) ordered the release of former Petroleum Industries Deputy Minister and former Chairman of Development Lotteries Board (DLB) Sarana Gunawardena in eight cases filed by the Bribery Commission.

The Bribery Commission has filed eight cases against former Deputy Minister Sarana Gunawardena alleging that the government incurred losses when he was serving as the Chairman of the Development Lotteries Board in 2007.

The case was taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika C. Ragala today.

Assistant Director General of the Bribery Commission Asitha Anthony, who appeared for the Bribery Commission, said that the written order of the three Commissioners of the Bribery Commission had not been submitted in filing the case and problems had arisen regarding its continuation.

The lawyer representing Sarana Gunawardena requested the court to release the accused if it is difficult to proceed with the case.

Accordingly, the Colombo Chief Magistrate has ordered the release of Sarana Gunawardena in eight cases filed by the Bribery Commission.
