July 24, Colombo: A decision has been made to apprise all Members of Parliament on the controversial Kotelawala Defense University Bill.

Accordingly, a special workshop will be held in Parliament on August 03rd to enlighten the lawmakers on the controversial bill and all MPs, both government and opposition, are to be invited to participate in the workshop, a senior parliamentary official has told Neth News.

He further stated that the workshop is organized for the Members of Parliament in view of the false statements made by various parties regarding the Kotelawala Defense University bill.

According to the official, the workshop will be conducted by several scholars in the field of higher education.

Many parties view the proposed legislation offers a privatized, military model of higher education and poses threats to the higher education sector and free education in the country.

In a cyber conference held Thursday to apprise the public, the Defense Secretary assured that the new bill broached for Kotelawala National Defense University will not cause any hindrance to the country’s free education.
