* Sri Lanka approves China’s Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use

July 17, Colombo: The National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) of Sri Lanka has approved China’s Sinovac Covid vaccine for emergency use in Sri Lanka.

Accordingly, all Covid-19 vaccines approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) have been approved by the National Medicines Regulatory Authority and can now be used in Sri Lanka, State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Prof. Channa Jayasumana said.

The Health authorities had recently submitted the relevant documents to the Drug Regulatory Authority seeking approval to use the vaccine for emergency use.

The World Health Organization on June 01 validated the Sinovac-CoronaVac COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use giving assurance that it meets international standards for safety, efficacy and manufacturing.

The vaccine is produced by the Beijing-based pharmaceutical company Sinovac.
