Jan 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s nationwide inflation in December 2020 determined under the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI) decreased to 4.6 percent from 5.2 percent recorded in November 2020 on a year-on-year basis, the Department of Census and Statistics reported Thursday.
The NCPI for all items for the month of December 2020 increased to 141.2 from 139.8 in the previous month.
The month-on-month change was contributed by increases of index value of food items by 1.02 percent and non-food items by 0.01 percent respectively.
Year‐on‐Year inflation of food group has decreased from 9.4 percent in November 2020 to 7.5 percent in December 2020 while that of non-food group has increased from 1.7 percent to 2.2 percent during the month.
Contributions to the inflation rate of December 2020 from food group and non-food group are 3.38 percent and 1.21 percent respectively.
The moving average inflation for the month of December 2020 is 6.2 percent. The corresponding rate for the month of November 2020 was 6.3 percent.
