Jan 13, Colombo: The Police Special Task Force (STF) Colombo Headquarters Raid Unit said a stock of heroin worth Rs. 240 million was found hidden in a scrubland in the Kosgoda Takaran Wadiya area during a raid conducted last night.
According to information received, a stock of 23 kilograms and 155 grams of heroin was found during a raid carried out last night (12) and it is a stock of narcotics belonging to the underworld gang leader Kosgoda Tharaka, the STF said.
The Police Special Task Force (STF) said that the drugs were packed in 20 parcels and were to be distributed throughout Sri Lanka.
This is the first time that such a large stock of narcotics has been found in the Southern Province, according to police sources.
No suspect has been arrested with the drugs and the stock has been handed over to the Colombo Narcotics Bureau for further investigation.
