Jan 12, Colombo: Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake who was sentenced to 04 years of Rigorous Imprisonment has been moved to the quarantine center at the Correctional Center for Youthful Offenders in Pallansena, Prisons Media Spokesman (Commissioner Administration) Chandana Ekanayake said.

The Supreme Court Monday sentenced MP Ranjan Ramanayake to 04 years of rigorous imprisonment for contempt of court.

A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court comprising justices Sisira Abrew, Vijith Malalgoda and Preethi Padman Surasena found the former state minister guilty of the charges beyond any reasonable doubt.

The Bench ruled that Ramanayake had committed contempt of court when he commented to the media that the majority of judges and lawyers in the country were corrupt on the 21st of August 2017.
