* Ranil must go to Parliament, UNP seniors say
Fri, Feb 26, 2021, 11:06 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Feb 26, Colombo: A group of senior members of the United National Party (UNP) Thursday called on former Prime Minister and party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe to go to parliament immediately to reveal the truth about the previous government’s cabinet papers, agreements and commission reports.

They further stated that the presence of former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, who is well versed in the parliamentary tradition not only in this country but also in the world, could answer the absurd allegations leveled against the party in Parliament.

This was stated by a group of party seniors who visited Ranil Wickremesinghe’s residence at Fifth Lane, Kollupitiya, Colombo yesterday (25) morning.

UNP Chairman Vajira Abeywardena has said that he has not seen anyone else who can match the parliamentary experience of former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and he believes that Wickremesinghe would be able to achieve maximum justice for the party by using his parliamentary privileges.

The United National Party has not yet nominated a member for the post of National List Member of Parliament.

Meanwhile, the former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said the report of the Presidential Commission of inquiry into the Easter Sunday Attack did not reveal any facts about the Easter attack and it was a mere document similar to a policy statement of political parties such as ‘One Country, One Law’.

The UNP leader said the omission of the steps taken by him directing all the security forces on the day of the Easter attack to prevent the second and future attacks in the report of the Presidential Commission is big shortcoming.
