Feb 25, Colombo: The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), a constituent party of the government today decided to reject the final report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) to investigate and inquire into the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.
The Executive Council of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party which met today at the party headquarters has taken the decision to reject the report of the Presidential Commission appointed by the former President and SLFP leader Maithripala Sirisena.
The final PCoI report has recommended Attorney General to consider instituting criminal proceedings against former President Maithripala Sirisena and his intelligence chiefs for failing to prevent the attack on 21 April 2019 despite receiving clear intelligence on a pending attack.
The Executive Council at the meeting today took a number of decisions regarding this report as well as the party's positions and future activities.
Accordingly, the Executive Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party decided to re-appoint former President Maithripala Sirisena as the Chairman of the party. The Executive Council approved the reappointment of State Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara to the post of General Secretary.
