Mon, Feb 22, 2021, 09:26 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Feb 22, Colombo: The results of the GCE Ordinary Level Examination scheduled to be held from March 01 to 10 are expected to be released by June, and accordingly, plans have been made to start A/L classes for these children from July, said the Minister of Education Prof. GL Peiris.

Participating in a media conference held at Nelum Mawatha on Monday, Minister Peiris said the government does not want to waste the children’s time waiting for exam results.

“Our main objective is not to waste the precious youth of the country's children. We are ready to face all the challenges that come in the midst of the Covid 19 epidemic so that education can be continued,” he said.

According to the Minister, a total of 622,305 candidates from all over the country will sit for the examination which will be held from March 1 to 10 at 4,513 centers. A total of 423,746 school candidates and 198,606 private candidates are scheduled to take the exam and 542 coordinating centers have been set up.

Two special centers have been set up in each district for Covid 19 infected candidates. Special arrangements have been made for the Colombo District as such centers may not be sufficient.

Necessary arrangements have already been made to ensure the health of the children in consultation with the principals, public health inspectors and regional health officers, the Minister said.

All applications have already been mailed to all schools. If private candidates have not received them, they can go to the Ministry of Education website and download their applications.

“This is the first time our government has taken such a step. Everything is for our children,” the Minister said.
