Feb 22, Colombo: The Panama Turtle Conservation Unit and Information Center of the Southeastern Naval Command, managed under the Sri Lanka Navy’s Turtle Conservation Project, released 78 sea turtle hatchlings into the sea on 21 February 2021, the Navy said.
Sri Lanka Navy is implementing a turtle conservation project with the prime objective of conserving endangered sea turtles to help protect the biodiversity of marine ecosystem.
Accordingly, these 78 sea turtles which emerged from the eggs hatched under the care of Turtle Conservation Unit and Information Centre, Panama in Southeastern Naval Command were released to the ocean under the supervision of Deputy Area Commander South Eastern Naval Area, Commodore Neville Ubayasiri.
