Feb 16, Colombo: Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle, State Minister of Primary Health Services, Pandemics and COVID Prevention, has stated that the government has decided to impose restrictions on weddings, festivals, funerals and nightclubs in view of the current spread of COVID-19 in the country.

The State Minister has said the decision was taken after a discussion with the health authorities yesterday.

Accordingly, it has been decided to reduce the number of guests allowed to attend weddings from 150 to 50 and to finish a funeral within 24 hours, Dr. Fernandopulle said.

In addition, the State Minister has said that it has been decided to impose restrictions on nightclubs and parties and that steps have been taken to tighten the restrictions imposed earlier on these activities considering the number of COVID infections reported in the last few days.

The State Minister said that a new series of health guidelines in this regard will be released today.
