Feb 15, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Attorney General Dappula de Livera has approved an agreement to purchase COVID-19 vaccines from India, subject to certain amendments, his coordinating officer State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said.
The agreement to procure the vaccines would be signed between Sri Lanka’s State Pharmaceuticals Corporation and India’s Serum Institute, Ltd. which manufactures the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine under the brand name Covishield.
India last month provided 500,000 doses of Covishield vaccine to Sri Lanka free of charge.
State Minister of Pharmaceutical Production, Supply and Regulation, Professor Channa Jayasumana has said that another 500,000 doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine that has been ordered earlier will arrive in Sri Lanka this week.
