* Second dose of AstraZeneca vaccine from April 23

Apr 08, Colombo: Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi said the second dose of Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to those who have taken the first dose will be administered from April 23 in accordance with the relevant period of the first dose.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka is expected to sign an agreement to obtain 7 million doses of vaccine from Pfizer. Agreements will also be reached to obtain vaccines from Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, the Minister said in parliament today.

The AstraZeneca vaccine has been administered to 924,758 people in the country. The Epidemiology Unit stated that the China-manufactured Sinopharm vaccine has been given to 2,469 Chinese nationals in Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, 67,927 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine have been given to the health sector. The number of vaccines given to non-health frontline staff working to control the Covid-19 epidemic is 128,700.

Among the others, 43,329 vaccines have been given to people working in high risk areas. The vaccine has also been given to 3309 people suffering from chronic kidney disease.

The Ministry of Health says that the first dose of AstraZeneca has been given to 230,832 people over the age of 60 and 35,663 people between the ages of 30 and 60 in the community.
