* Attorney General orders to arrest three police officers for killing underworld member ‘Amy Suranga’

Apr 06, Colombo: The Attorney General Dappula De Livera has ordered the immediate arrest of three police officers, including an Assistant Superintendent of Police, in connection with the shooting death of Buddhika Prasad Gamage alias “Army Suranga” in the Sevanagala area in Embilipitiya while he was in police custody and to produce the suspects in court.

Coordinating Officer of the Attorney General Nishara Jayaratne stated that the Attorney General has instructed to name the three police officers as suspects in the B626 case being heard in the Embilipitiya Magistrate’s Court, arrest them and produce before court.

Accordingly, Assistant Superintendent of Police Lasantha Ratnayake, the then OIC and currently serving in the Terrorism Suppression and Investigation Division, and the then OIC of the CID Kandappa Nishantha Silva, who is said to be living in Switzerland currently and then CID Police Sergeant 32684 Premakumara now serving in Rakwana Police, have been named as suspects.

The Attorney General had noted that there was sufficient evidence to name them as suspects and file a case with the Embilipitiya Magistrate’s Court. In addition, the AG had directed the CID to record statements from the suspects and produce them in the court.
