* Cabinet approval to purchase 6 million doses of Sputnik 5 vaccine for COVID-19

Apr 06, Colombo: The Cabinet approval has been granted to purchase another 6 million doses of Russian Sputnik 5 vaccine at a cost of $ 9.5 per dose, a statement on cabinet decisions said.

The Cabinet of Ministers on the 23rd March 2021 have decided to purchase 7 million doses of ‘Sputnik V’ Vaccine at a cost of US$ 9.95 each to a sum of US$ 69.65 million upon the recommendation of the Cabinet Appointed Negotiation Committee.

The Cabinet of Ministers at its weekly meeting yesterday has approved the proposal made by the Minister of Health to purchase another 6 million doses of ‘Sputnik V° Vaccine at the same price in addition to the same number of vaccines.

The Sputnik V vaccine has been approved for emergency use in Sri Lanka by the National Medicine Regulatory Authority.
