Mon, Apr 5, 2021, 11:18 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Apr 05, Colombo: Chandimal Jayasinghe National Director of Mrs. World (Sri Lanka), says that steps have been taken to award the crown to Pushpika Silva, who was officially crowned as the 2021 Mrs. Sri Lanka.

Mr. Chandimal Jayasinghe further stated that the crown which was stripped off from Mrs. Pushpika de Silva was handed over to the Organizing Committee and in turn handed over to Vogue Jewelers which created the crown.

Mrs. Pushpika de Silva was announced the winner of the Mrs. Sri Lanka 2021 pageant held at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre on Sunday (04) night and crowned by the crowned by Shiranthi Rajapaksa and Mayor Rosy Senanayake.

However, when Pushpika De Silva was about to take center stage, reigning Mrs. World Caroline Jurie stripped the crown off of the winner claiming that she is a divorcee and not quailed to be crowned according to pageant rules. Jurie then went on to crown the first runner-up.

Mr. Chandimal Jayasinghe said such an incident should not happen and that no one can take back the crown which was unanimously given by the Organizing Committee and the judges.

He added that reigning Mrs. World Caroline Jurie has no moral right to do such a thing and does not condone her arrogant actions.

He said that since Pushpika De Silva was the real owner of the crown, no need to be crowned her again.

Meanwhile, Pushpika De Silva is currently hospitalized for injuries to her head caused by forcibly taking off the crown.

In a statement on her official Facebook account Pushpika De Silva said she is not a divorcee and challenged the organizers to produce any document to claim that she was divorced.

She said even though the symbolic crown has been snatched from her head, she has already taken the necessary legal action against that injustice and insult.
