* Bus Priority Lane strictly for buses from tomorrow

Sept 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka Police said from Wednesday (23) only passenger transport buses, school buses or vans, office buses and vans will be allowed to operate in the bus priority lane.

Speaking at a media briefing today Police Media Spokesman Senior Superintendent of Police Jaliya Senaratne said other vehicles will not be allowed in the bus priority lane.

Similarly buses will not be allowed on the second lane except when a bus have to overtake another bus stopped at a bus stand to pick up or leave passengers.

Further, Passenger Transport Buses must enter the designated Bus Stand area in order to allow a passenger to board and leave buses.

He said the three-wheelers and motorcycles need to use the second lane.

No fines will be levied this week on lane violators, and steps have been taken to activate a legal advisory service, the Police Media Spokesman said.

The traffic lane law to reduce congestion and minimize accidents is enforced on four major roads in the Colombo suburbs from 6 - 9 am and 4-8 pm.
