Sept 19, Colombo: President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa today (19) inspected the development projects in the Puttalam District.

The President began his visit by inspecting the activities of the Valaichchenai Estate in Madurankuliya where several crops including coconut and vegetables have been cultivated in an area of 900 acres and commended the successful model vineyard cultivation on a 10 acre land.

President Rajapaksa also opened the Institute of Agricultural Technology, which was built with a donation from the Government of Italy to His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith. The institute is designed to provide residential practical training to 50 students. The cardinal said it would provide more opportunities to train low-income children in the area.

The institution is governed by the Archdiocese of Colombo. The President had a cordial chat with the Reverent Father of the Training Center.

The President visited the Madurankuliya Model College and spent some time talking with the students. President Rajapaksa informed the Army Commander of the students' request to construct a playground at the college and asked him to construct it as soon as possible.

The President instructed the Secretary to the Ministry of Highways to construct a flyover connecting the Primary College on the other side of the road. The President listened to the road congestion and several other public issues and resolved them immediately.

On his way from Palachchonai, Madurankuliya to Daluwa, the President engaged in a cordial conversation with the people gathered on both sides of the road.

The President inspected the beet, tobacco, chili and onion plantations and encouraged the farmers to cultivate.

The President also inspected the Daluwa and Nirmalapura wind farms. His Eminence Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith and Member of Parliament Chinthaka Mayadunna were also present on the occasion.
