Wed, Sep 16, 2020, 11:42 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Sept 16, Colombo: Former Northern Provincial Councilor M. K. Shivajilingam, who was arrested by the Kopay Police on Tuesday (15), will be produced before Jaffna Magistrate’s Court today.

Kopay Police arrested the former Jaffna district parliamentarian while he was commemorating the 33rd death anniversary of former LTTE member Thileepan, who died during a hunger strike in 1987.

Police say a ‘Thileepan commemoration’ has been held in the Antankaiwatta area in the Kopay police division in violation of a restraining order issued by the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court banning the event.

A statement issued by the Police Media Division stated that another person was arrested along with Mr. Shivajilingam yesterday (15).

They will be produced before the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court today and the Kopay Police are conducting further investigations.
