* Pharmaceuticals manufacturing facility to be set up in Oyamaduwa

Sept 14, Colombo: State Minister of Pharmaceutical Production, Supply and Regulation, Prof. Channa Jayasumana has received the approval of the President to construct a pharmaceutical factory on the land in the Oyamaduwa area where the Deyata Kirula exhibition was held in Anuradhapura.

Speaking to the media after the District Development Committee meeting held in Anuradhapura today (14), the State Minister necessary arrangements are being made to construct a pharmaceutical factory on the land in the Oyamaduwa area.

He said the local investors have come forward to set up the manufacturing facility.

The State Minister said the government will take steps to produce 50% of the drugs required for the country within the next five years.

“We received a large number of complaints from the public regarding the various prices as well as the high fees charged for obtaining services from private hospitals, especially regarding laboratory test fees and private hospital fees. Therefore, a system will be put in place to control these oppressive charges and to charge islandwide at the same rate.”

The Minister of State Prof. Channa Jayasumana stated that steps will be taken to introduce a price equation for these services as soon as possible and to start a program to provide relief to the people by stopping charging high prices.
