* Additional police forces ready if needed for COVID-19 control - Police Spokesman
Fri, Oct 30, 2020, 10:01 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Oct 30, Colombo: Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the police department it is not prepared to reduce the operation to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus by any means and has prepared additional battalions if required.

He said that 22 officers of police and Special Task Force (STF) had been infected with the COVID-19-19 virus and nearly 400 other police officers have been placed under self-quarantine.

The police spokesman said this morning (30) that a police hospital in Poonani and Kundasale had been set aside for the treatment of the infected officers.

Police Media Spokesman Ajith Rohana also clarified the sudden death of the Biyagama OIC of a heart attack yesterday (29) afternoon.

He said the 52-year-old Biyagama OIC was attending a discussion with the SSP last evening when he developed chest pains and he has died on admission to the Kiribathgoda Hospital.

“It is reported that he was actually being treated for some kind of chronic illness. Therefore, under the current situation, it had been stated as a heart attack since he has complained of chest pains. However, a post mortem will be held today. Only then can we state the reason,” DIG Rohana said.

“He was a capable police officer who served in the Biyagama area. He was a Chief Inspector of Police. We can reveal the cause of death after a post mortem conducted today. However, our duties will be carried out by deploying police officers so that there is no shortage of service,” the police spokesman added.
